Conely Motor Sports Revvs up Royal Oak

The Support MI Troops Campaign, a fundraiser sponsored by Michigan's Attorney General Mike Cox, to help purchase holiday gifts for Michigan military members serving abroad was held recently at Woody's Diner in Royal Oak. Conely Motor Sports made a guest appearance with one of our Nextel Cup Monte Carlos to support to the event.
To punctuate the evening's event November 10, Cox started the night off with a roar as he fired up the engine of the Brighton, Mich. based race car. The roar squelched WRIF's on-air broadcast from the second floor of the 5th Avenue eatery to the point of delaying live broadcasting for a few minutes. Royal Oak being known for over-the-top celebrations following pro sports victories responded to the un-muffled exhaust of the multi-hundred horse powered engine quickly as two police cruisers appeared to monitor the "engine test." No tickets issued, thank you very much. Having the Mich. A. G. on hand may have played a role in the ticket decision making, thanks guys.

To further add draw power to the $20-per-person entry fee evening Darren McCarty and Robert Porcher made brief appearances to sign autographs and apparel that were put up for silent auction. The pro sports stars were kind enough to stop by the Conely racer to say hello on their way in for the event.
Conely put up team sportswear and track passes for the silent auction offerings as well as some pretty nifty tires. They work well as table center pieces.

To contribute to the Support Michigan Troops Campaign started by Governor Jennifer Granholm and Mike Cox in October, checks can be made out to:
"Recreation Funds for Michigan Troops in Iraq," and should be mailed to: Support MI Troops, 600 South Walnut Street, Lansing, MI 48933.
