Rain Dashes Hopes at MIS

A Case of Too, Much and Not Enough:
Rain and Points.

The 30 to 40% chance of rain predicted for the Michigan International Speedway at Brooklyn, Michigan was 100% accurate as MIS was directly in the zone of probability and got soaked on Qualifying Friday August, 20, 2004. A lucky few in the Busch Series and even fewer in Nextel Cup Series were able to able to qualify and test on the rain shortened day. Our Conely team was not on the lucky list for the day as the rain cancelled our opportunity to qualify Friday. The decision to qualify based on current point standings announced around 3:30 p.m. finalized that Conely Motor Sports would not be competing at MIS in 2004: no points, DNQ.
RATS!

Lunch Where It's Dry
The Crew uses Friday's rain delay as a chance to relax and get something to eat inside of the team hauler.

Norm waits
When your team is a points leader like ours is, we get ample parking near the back of the lot. It wasn't much, but it was our home away from home at MIS in August.
When the rain settled in we had a lot of time to reflect on our trip to Brooklyn's MIS, a mere one hour from our Brighton base. Our lead #79 car is reflected on the lift gate of our hauler.
Team owner John Conely surveys the competition as the car is moved to first round inspections.
Holly, Michigan driver Stan Boyd explains his experience behind the wheel to Michigan State Police Sgt. Greg Jones as the two compare notes on driving techniques.
Norm patiently waits as NASCAR officials give the car another one of the many inspections needed to get onto the track.
