December 2004
- The transfer to our new hosting server is complete and we have hopefully caught most of the glitches. Thank you for your patience. We did lose a page of info. in the process though.
- We are having one of our earlier Pontiacs transformed into a Chevy for the upcoming season. Seems there are certain tracks that this body style will be best suited for, one would be the season opener.
- The shop is in the beginning stages of its long-term development. We expect to expand the main garage so that we can add capacity and capability for the team's racing efforts.
- Project X has been submitted for review and we will give you more information on this project as we soon as we can.
November 2004
- Conely Motor Sports visits Woody's Diner in Royal Oak.
To offer additional support in drawing attention to the Support Michigan Troops Campaign spearheaded by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, Conely Motor Sports visited the popular Royal Oak eatery November 10, 2004. Owner John Conely and team members brought out one of the stabled Cup cars for an ear grabbing start-up by MI AG Mike Cox. Our Monte Carlo cleared its throat in front of the Diner on 5th Avenue to the detriment of WRIF who were transmitting live from the scene and also brought out the Royal Oak Police in record time just to keep an eye on us. Darren McCarty and Robert Porcher were kind enough to stop and pose with the team. Photos will be posted soon.
- We've got an "X" project in the works that we hope to be able to detail publicly soon. This should give you, our fans a whole new way of seeing us! Sorry, can't tell you any more than that for now.
September 2004
- Ivan the terrible has taught us a new four letter word not unlike a choice word spoken when losing skin wrenching...RAIN! Rain again squelched qualifying for us on Friday and even washed out practice runs for those that did qualify on Saturday. Our driver Stan Boyd did get some early morning track time but was unable to get back out onto the track for the afternoon session before the decision was made to qualify by points due to rain conditions.
- Move over Dover. Next up is Kansas City.
August 2004
- Rain Dashes Hopes at MIS
- Conely Motor Sports and the Michigan Amber Alert program announce a joint program promoting Amber Alert at the upcoming Gordon Foods 400 at MIS.
- Now we're getting somewhere. Our engines are performing pretty much on projection and our recent test at MIS Tuesday, August 10 left us in a pretty good mood as the setup and vehicle response exceeded our expectations. Stan, our driver thought we had one of the best vehicles he has had the opportunity to drive. Look for his comments and track times, if John will let us, here in the next few days. The crew took Wednesday, August 11 off to rest up from the last few days of non-stop work on the cars. We will be posting their efforts and images from testing on the photo page soon.
- We will be sending our main racer off to dyno chassis testing in the next day or two as we get the last few bugs out of the system before Brooklyn next week.
- Our dynamometer testing came back with positive results, better than expected actually, with data that puts us right in the mix of things for MIS.
July 2004. What happened to July Anyway?
- We will be posting images shortly from our visit to Detroit in support of sponsor Uni Boring. Special thanks to GM Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner for stopping to say hello. Any extra bow-tie racing parts you don't need?
June 2004 News From Conely Motor Sports
- June 15 Ch-ch-changes...We are without a doubt quite a bit disappointed around the shop this week as the word came down that we would not be going to MIS this coming weekend. The driver and our alternates all took other rides for the DHL 400. So without a skilled navigator at the helm, we just couldn't make it to the track. Our shop crew put in a lot of overtime to get our 3 main cars ready for this weekend. MIS-fortune, MIS-sed opportunity, MIS out-the-window. Grrr. That's racin'.
- Our Gander Mountain visit came and went in May with good turnout and visibility as our location was prime for for guests as they entered or exited the main entry.
- We're in June now and are quite feverishly working on being ready for MIS and the DHL 400. Once again we have had to change some things on the body as a mid-season change from NASCAR came through.
- If you have been using the Val-Pak coupons that come in your local mail, you should have seen a contest opportunity that will give a lucky winner a team access pass for the upcoming DHL 400. Team member for a weekend...not bad for the cost of a postage stamp. Look for an online form soon.
- Conely Motor Sports owner John Conely speaks candidly about the 2004 season. His comments can be read here.
May 2004 News from Conely Motor Sports
- With only hours to go, our first car of the year to go on public display will be at the Novi, Michigan Gander Mountain store grand opening. Paperwork delayed the opening, but gave the team more time to put into the details of getting our car ready. We'll drop in the engine over the next 24 hours and will be good to go for the weekend. Our super speedway car, think June MIS, recently came back from North Carolina and is getting the full wrath of our team as we ready it for the June race. We'll get you some sneak picts on this one soon. Photos from this weekend's Gander visit will be posted soon too; when we get them, so will you.
April 2004 News
- The building of Conely Motor Sports as a Nextel Cup team continues as bodywork nears completion for two Cup cars. We picked up another one of the bodies and will be high-tailing it back to N. C. soon to grab the other one that waits for us as we speak.
- Engine building based on our Chevy blocks is nearing completion as we prep for the 2004 season. Don't even try to enter the engine room without the secret handshake...John's pretty picky about who gets to see what's afoot in the "lab" these days.
- Work continues on outfitting racers to get them ready for our intro into 2004 Nextel Cup racing. And continues. And continues. Hey, we've only got so many hands!
- Additionally we are prepping a show car for a sponsor visit to Gander Mountain in Novi, Michigan in mid May. Gander Mountain will be highlighting Conely’s #79 Cup racer as part of their grand opening. And continues.
- Painting has given way to assembly. And Continues.
- June will see our biggest effort to start scratching our way into the world of Nextel Cup racing with a full bore showing in our own Michigan backyard at the Sirius 400 at MIS in Brooklyn, Michigan.
